Well, I have to say that they are definitely a step in the right direction towards getting kids to have an appreciation for music. You can learn to play chords on them as they have touch technology. Many parents will buy these for their kids because they think that they are cheap and there is no way a real guitar would come in around the same price point. Often these are the same parents that don't even bother to walk into a music shop and ask.

The fact is, for around the same price a good music store can get you a real guitar. Any child will learn a lot more from a real guitar than from a piece of electrified, technological paper any day. Learning to play guitar on a Paper Jamz guitar would be like learning to drive by playing car racing video games. Yes, there are similarities and the basics might be the same, but in the real world there are a lot of little differences together that make up a major difference.

The lack of real strings means that the student can never feel where they are going, or feel the separation of each string which is vital for learning to play lead guitar.
I applaud Paper Jamz as being an inventive toy which would bring hours of fun, but at the end of the day all they have produced is a toy.
If you are serious about playing a guitar, check out your local guitar shop and pick up a real one.
