1. Half and whole steps: Another creative way to play half and whole steps on your instrument is to play half and whole steps using your whammy bar. Go beyond just playing single notes and incorporate chords using this technique. You will need to use you ear to know when you have reached a half step or whole step. It's a nice technique to incorporate gravitational half and whole steps along with using your trem arm to produce half and whole steps.
2. Vibrato: Along with using your left hand to play a fast or slow vibrato you can use your whammy bar to play vibrato. It's also nice to play vibrato using your whammy bar with chords.
3. The Dive Bomb: The dive bomb is a guitar trick that is very effective anywhere within a guitar driven song. The dive bomb also sounds super with lots of distortion. Take your tremolo arm, strike the open 6th string of your guitar and with the note ringing out loud depress your whammy bar downwards as low as it can go. This will drop the open E note down to sub harmonic pitches that will give your 6th string a wonderful low growl tone that you can manipulate with your guitar. Just remember that dive bombs place a tremendous amount of pressure on your strings, and so don't be surprised if you have a string break unexpectedly when applying this cool sounding technique.
4. Whammy Combo Tricks: You can combine other guitar techniques, tricks, and effects with your newly discovered dive bomb technique. One nice Dive Bomb combo to use is the "Dive Bomb Harmonic Technique". Take your instrument and do a dive bomb using the open 3rd string of your guitar. As you come up with you whammy bar place your left hand 3rd finger over the 3rd fret, 3rd string. This will produce a high pitch harmonic that is great to use when soloing on guitar.
